I don't believe in one ways streets. Not between friends and not while i'm driving.

Can i make a confession?...call me a birthday scrooge, but phone calls on birthdays can be such a piece of crap*. All it means is that you have to do a run down of what you've done (or plan to do) like 17 times, all the while wasting any activity time you could be having with your wife who keeps trying to do stuff for your birthday but instead has to watch you talk on the phone...all day. It is a sweet thought (or possibly just obligatory?), but really...call the next day, send a card, or my personal fave...a text (both economical and time savvy!) Ba hum bug.

*Insert foot for when my kids are grown and away...in which case birthday phone calls are my favorite thing in the world.)

happy 29th birthday lover!

t when tea ate.

Unfortunately for you, in this picture my thighs got their immodest birthday wish. Takes every girl back to when they got their first pair of spanx (*sigh*). I promise this is the most you'll ever have to see of them. And even though this pic is almost crotchtacular, i am going to post it anyway because i want to remember those sparkly legs when I'm old and fat. happy birthday to me.

(I know you've gotten snippets of the Dikefest 2010 photo shoot, but now its been so long that the build up is getting stupid and you'll be like "whats the big deal? its just your same old stupid face." The hold up is that I am making a christmas book for my parents with them, but maybe i'll just show you now anyway??)

and i was like, baby baby baby ooooooh

My sister steph finally had her little muchkin! (That makes two for her now) Hopefully people will stop thinking I am the oldest sister since i have "all the kids". I'm the youngest sister, and technically my other older sister has one fetus more than me (cause she is preg and i'm not).

It's because i'm so wise.

Happy Birthday "Sweetie Peetie"
(aka: peter christopher kubal
born 11/15/10)
We've almost gotten all the "pumpkin eater" jokes out of our systems...or the stroking of his little head saying "pretty bird" (the duct tape headed bird on dumb and dumber was "peetie")...almost. There are no free passes into this family...everyone has to pay their dues ;)

turning tricks.

When Elyott turned "5" my in-laws happened to be going to peter piper pizza while up north visiting the grandparents. I still hadn't gotten around to throwing her an official party, so I quickly scrambled and got the word out that we should make that outing her "birthday party"...only it was July...her birthday is in January. oopsie. BUT, she was thrilled! HA Hah, kids are so easy to trick.

I miss the days when I could make their birthdays whenever I wanted. Now with an older sister (who is on to my game ;) as his personal informant (2nd graders don't let anything slide) we had to do Sheamus's birthday within an appropriate time frame, but that didn't keep me from keeping our white trash 5th birthday tradition alive.

-at a dog park
-with two ballons (??)
-a power ranger at his own "spider (man)" themed party
-serve yourself water jugs for drinks.
-a cousin-on-party-guest gang style beat down
-white (spider webbing) streamers that just looked like the gazebo got T.P'd
...a gazebo!!

So yes, my party planning has seen better days, but you know what the best thing about about 5 year olds?? You could probably throw their birthday party atop a giant mound of manure and they would still think it was the best party ever! Which is what sheamus told me later his was...booyah.

...well, minus the manure.

my face is 5!

I just realized I never posted when he turned 4...oops (get used to it middle child ;) We did have a party but I think i was just coming out of my "sick coma" with my sonny pregnancy. Excuses, excuses...what i'm trying to say is my Sheamus is 5 and I am gonna celebrate like its nobody's business! (that's a lie. we are actually just going to the park to eat cake...this is a product of too many kids, and him having a birthday in my month from hell)

Fun sheamus facts:

-a typical nightly prayer these days..."dear heavy fodder, please bless sonny to not get smashed by a monster truck, and help us to not say 'ew' at moms food. help me to have lots of toys i like. and help Jesus to be safe. amen." ...You know, only the really important stuff ;)

-sheamus is a master at watching a movie with his eyes locked on the screen and his body flailing and flipping upside down and inside out. He's like a freak of nature. Ok...maybe he's just 5, but still. I have never seen such distraction and dedication all at once.

-still snuggly and sweet. some common phrases "are you pondering what i'm pondering?" "So, how's your day going so far?" He's also turning into quite a little jokester (his laugh is infectious).

-Still wears costumes daily, but now he prefers the ones with no muscles so he can wear regular clothes over the top as his "secret identity"

-will, totally unprompted, clean the entire basement toy room and actually organize every toy in its correct bin. It's amazing the focus of this kid when he wants to do a "good deed"...now all i gotta do is show him how to clean toilets and we are set.

-It's a guarantee that this kid will fall at least 10 times a day. sitting in a stationary chair? crash. walking calmly down a hallway? bang. buckled securely in his straightjacket? thwack. maybe he has an inner ear issue?? If i were more responsible, i'd get that checked out. On second thought...i'm pretty certain he's just a spaz.

Happy birthday Face! you are my best big boy!!

Happy Birthday Ma!

This post is mostly for family, so beware of its long winded nature.
Actually, my mom doesn't even read this blog (or any other for that matter) Not because she doesn't want to, but because her computer skills peaked in the 80's, so she's pretty worthless at using the internet. It still kind of blows my mind that it's all still so confusing to her, but i suppose that is just part of what makes her adorable.

Bear with me while I share a few memories here about my sweet mother who is one year wiser on this day in September:

-First, i must point out how obvious it is from this picture, my mom's playfulness with my kids. She is  genuine in her interest in kid board games or a slow quad rides, a silly song, or some other game with my kids that I'd rather punch myself in the face than play one more time.

-As for memories, Sheamus and i were exchanging stories today (i told true ones from when i was little, then he shared ones from when he was 11 and could use his spidey strings to jump up to heaven?) One that I told was in about 5th grade when my friend and i thought it would be funny to hide in the back of the car while my mom ran errands. About half way through, and i'm pretty sure while on the road, we snuck up from the back of our Astro van and scared the bejeezus out of her. We thought it was SO hilarious, but I'm pretty sure she was mad, and rightfully so. Not only did she not escape for some precious time to herself, but we had freaked her out while she was operating a 2 ton death machine. I HATE being startled...like, i want to round house kick the person in the face cause i hate them so much for the first few minutes.  This makes me a bad sport when someone scares me for laughs.  I got my jumpiness from my mom. So the moral of the story is how much I appreciate her composure when i probably would have impulsively driven us all to our death, by choice.

-She was never very strict. She gave us opportunities to prove that we could be trustworthy and make good choices. I know its probably cause i was such an angelic child ;) but still, it was awesome.

-She was very good about signing us up for all sorts of things to try growing up. T-ball, gymnastics, choir, plays, softball, talent shows, soccer, clogging, karate, brownies, cheerleading, clarinet, sign language...you name it, she always encouraged to try it all and never forced us to do them, or only ones she thought were best (like how i cringe when Elyott tells me she wants to play the flute). We might have always been the last kid waiting in the parking lot until dark, or the annoying one who always needed a ride from the coach, BUT she was always willing and good about getting us signed up. I cherish all the opportunities she made happen as a kid even if we didn't have much money to spare. Now that i have my own i realize how hard it is to remember and coordinate, but that never stopped her. And what did she get? freaking talented children, that's what :) Thanks ma!

-I love how she always laughs so freely (not to mention her beautiful smile). Sometimes i feel like a stone wall. It's not that i'm not laughing inside, its just i cant get my face to give in to the feeling. Thats why i don't usually buy it when people say LOL. But I like to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume its more like a QIC (quiet inside chuckle) or something. (I do believe when my sister Lisa writes it though, she got her laughter from my dear mother. She not only types LOL but she'll add about 15 exclamation marks and i believe every one.) Wait who are we talking about again??...Oh ya, mom! Oh how i wish she had passed this trait to me instead of the giant feet. Actually my dad's feet are crazy too. i was pretty much doomed.

My mom has always been affectionate in every way. I remember her letting us rock with her on our maroon rocking chair, even when we were too big to sit on her lap. She is understanding and supportive, generous and sentimental and so many things I hope to be to my kids. Thanks ma for being so motherlicious. Happy Birthday! I love you forever!

guess what??

We had a baby! ok...so you already knew that (front)
(back)
Make believe this isn't being mailed 6 months late, and be excited for the first baby announcement I have ever made*(third times a charm?)
Happy 6th month baby.
we love you sonny bear!!
Some sweet sonny facts:
*almost everytime you pick him up, he farts. He's basically a squeaky toy/whoopie cushion...a squoopie??
*he literally smiles at everything (ie. if i were to pick his nose mid sleep, he'd open his eyes, flash a gummy smile and then continue on with his dream of a mother who didn't like to pick things)
*he has curly flyaway "whoville" hair that gets little dingle berries. Each time I have to cut one out, I'm pretty sure a fairy falls from the sky.

jemma is ONE-ish

Last weekend the sisters/family constructed yet another last minute party. Pulled together in less than 24 hours from start to finish.(minus the adorable invitation above) This one was for the sweet and daring Jemma who turned one years old, ehgm....2 months ago
Anyway, I left in the morning run party errands with bed head, no makeup, running shorts and an ACDC shirt i'd been wearing for at least 48 hours.
WILL I NEVER LEARN??

repeat in mirror: "Shower before party...shower before party"

...because without fail, this is what I will end up wearing for the party!
So, when my sister began snapping pictures of me once it had started (after she was given time to go freshen up while I deep fried corndogs) my tallest finger couldn't help but stand up. "Carolyn!" she'd say "...just smile like Lisa!"....to which Lisa replied "Oh I'd be flipping you off too if I weren't tying ribbons around your hotdogs." (and sadly we were...well, parchment paper and bakers twine...whatever, it made sense at the time) That pretty much summed it up right there.

When all was said and done, it was the most fun one year old birthday party I've ever been to :) we sure love you Jem!

The above invite created by the always fantastic and creative Stephanie Kubal
She never ceases to amaze...she has SO much talent! {sayRED creative...where your customized artwork dreams come true!}

*fun fact...In my mad birthday rush (and sporting my au natural beauty) i ran into none other than my favorite couple on the planet! OF COURSE THEN. If I weren't in such a hurry I'd have taken a picture to document the magical moment....but then I'd have had to flip myself off :( you understand. Stacey + Geoff 4 eva.

despite the crazy week and hospital drama, for a little girl...the show must continue.

It was a surprise party at a local birthday hotspot

It was all very "lifetime original movie"-ish

...and Elyott was in heaven.

Happy Birthday my to my best girl!!
(and no, you can't have a cell phone when you turn 8)

Adam should be out of the hospo by Monday!!!!!

future so bright...

Six years ago at 1:07am she came, my best most beautiful girl {and also most shrill squealing baby bird}.  I can't imagine a time that i didn't have this amazing little person in my world with her heart of gold.  There is something to be said about the first born of a family, and much more to be said about my Elyott.  She is such a shining star! I tell her always, and it is absolute, that i am the luckiest 'baby momma' on the planet.

Love love love to my best girl on her special day!

perhaps a fast forward??....

...just not too fast ;)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY E

12.14.2008

Birthdays are for lovers.

Today is my husband's birthday.

this is him after i missed a photo op and made him act all nonchalant so i could take it again.  Still normal and particularly adorable...

On the other hand, well...this is what happens when people try and take candid pictures of me...

meet Drunkface Mcgee:

It's true: I have the ugliest "in-between" faces. So my thanks to you Adam for being so cute and tall, making up for my lackluster face {and scary bunion feet}...this gives our children a fighting chance ;)
Happy Birthday, old-y.

I looove you

11.25.2008

26'ed.

*Yesterday morning I woke up and discovered that I had lost ten pounds. Deb had left a half dozen cinnamon rolls on my doorstep...and Adam stayed up all night scrubbing the house top to bottom.  That's cause it was my birthday and things just go your way, you know.
{*untrue}

Ah, hopes and dreams.

Well actually, i rolled out of bed pulled on my brand new shirt from my thoughtful husband {wink} and went to gain 10 pounds at the Farmhouse for breakfast were i took pictures of my husband and i eating {weird} with me sporting the same unwashed and untouched hair with green spray paint in it from Sunday (because i could!).

There began the foodfest that is an adult birthday. Here are the things i ate (as if my life depended on it) in no particular order:

1/2 of a steak and blue cheese panini
1 enormous cinnamon roll
1 biscuit with gravy
2 slices of sourdough toast
2 pounds of egg white only avocado and swiss scramble
3 slices of white pizza
4 cups of diet coke (oh the absurd contradiction)
5 mouthfuls of sweet potato salad
6 bites of chocolate cake
...aaaand an entire 12 ounce Nielsons chocolate malt custard.

All was well in my abdomen until i watched the low budget cheesefest that was Twilight (are you kidding me?) I was laughing so hard i nearly threw up. At home I returned to a sleepy husband and a clean(ish) house where i could ponder my day of celebration:

"Why, (my suffering digestive track pleaded) why do birthday's always amount to such uncivilized amounts of food inhilation?"
"Because, {croaked a tired yet trusty pair of spanx i was sporting under my skinny jeans} just because."

**Spanx...for a birthday feast that won't raise eyebrows. Looks like my birthday went my way after all :) Nothin' can stop me now! (cue tap dance).

yee haw i'm 26!

10.05.2008

my face turned three!

Three years and still no third baby (how could i do that to my little monkey?) To me, my second "baby" is still so small (seriously, he's a bag of bones) despite the following account of his official passage into manhood (well as far as the "world" is concerned)...

...Sheamus has never been one to "fiddle" (or yank, like some kids i know...yowza!) but in a moment of diaper freedom the other day he reached down and declared:

"Mom i'm getting thso big!"

uh er...."Yes you are a big boy now Sheamus" (is this a sick joke? he couldn't be thinking such things already??)

and yes, to clarify, he continued..."No, my PEEP is thso big!!"

FOR REAL??
Yes he's 3...and proud of it.

Happy Birthday Face!
Fun facts of your BIRTHday:

-almost born in the car (my freshly detailed car thanked my water for not breaking in it)

-two weeks early (the nurses made we walk down a friggin' mile long hallway and fill out paper work cause they thought i was...overreacting?? dummies) Turns out i was a 10 upon arrival and ready to push...no time for pain killers, he was out within minutes (baby/reason #2 my crotch will never forgive me).

-The sweetest little monkey I'd ever seen (I was afraid i wouldn't like boys...silly!) and we've been "guggling" ever since...:)  I love you baby.

keeping "mum"

My beautiful mother had a birthday this week.  And since i didn't get to see her on her birthDAY, i will pay tribute to all her years of being such an awesome mom...blog style.

Born in England, you enthusiastically sang us the always bizarre, but nevertheless catchy, nursery rhymes that are forever branded into my memory (Ging Gang Goo, Eenie Meanie Macarack, Oh 'carolyn' you are a funion, etc.)  As a little girl I loved your flowing Farrah Fawcet hair, the way you'd push the breaks to the beat of the music at a stop light, your snow white song voice.  And I indirectly thank you for the things you taught us by default: organization skills and cleanliness (when we'd have to clean your bedroom or the linen closet for punishment ;) and responsibility (taping oprah for you everyday after school).  p.s. i forgive you for thinking i was a lesbian in junior high (in your defense i did dress like one).

I still love the way: you laugh at everything your kids say, are the biggest "line crosser" i know, your beautiful smile, how much you love my kids, the lengths you go to to get everyone on family trips, the way you love games even though you suck at most of them, your love for all things "bejeweled", the way you are so easily impressed by your childrens' creativity, your loyalty, your acceptance, that you let your cheapskate children organize your house as your "present", how easy you are to be around, and never to forget my thanks for birthing me, even though you gained 80 lbs during pregnancy!!

(grandma's amazing glasses)

Adorable on your wedding day. So wishing you still had that dress (and again loving grandma's white girl afro)

Happy Birthday mommy dearest, i love love love you!

*(also: thank you for never beating us with wire hangers :)
