my mourning jacket

First, If you haven't been to see Kristen Wiig's Bridesmaids you need to stop reading...punch yourself in the face, and then get yourself to a theater. It is seriously one of the most endearing and brilliant comedies i've seen in a while. If you live in AZ and you have no friends (probably cause you still haven't seen this movie) hit me up and i will personally drag you there myself.

Second, i need to get me a cropped blazer and fast. Its ubiquitous style proves to be the best thing to chicks with no money since sliced bread. If you've seen this movie you know what i mean. She wears one with nearly every outfit and kills it every time. Let me tell you how totally fun its been to find one that is less than $100 bucks now that its 100+ degrees (I am scrambling to build a compact wardrobe for an upcoming secret trip...more on that later).

Theory has one for $400...bite me. Jcrew has one on SALE for $188 sooooo...that's out. Gap has one for $100...a little warmer but still no go. H&M apparently used to have them...damn you! And DI only had ones that needed to be drastically altered to not make me look like a cast member from Full House, and i don't have those skills or time. The search continues....dun dun dunnn.

my stretch marks say i have no business wearing a two piece.

and the winner is....

(anthropologie)
I know you are all gonna check the reference and roll your eyes at another blogger who acts like dropping 170 bucks on a swimsuit is no big thang...but if i add in my birthday gift card (thanks dad) and divide the rest out over all the years that i could have been buying a new suit but was still wearing my "tankini"  from 1998 (back when tankinis were cool)...it comes out to about 9 dollars. And it was worth every penny! (if you still wear a tankini, i'll still think your cool. especially if you're wearing it right now)

team Boo 's you

p.s. we still sleep on a mattress on the floor, but at least i won't have disintegrated elastic (aka. see through) beach wear.

p.p.s. yes that is me in the picture. did i mention the suit has magical powers?

p.p.p.s. today i had to answer my door with sonny's throw up on my shirt, so i earned it anyway.

she's not...too sexy for your shirt

It never used to occur to me that thrift stores were for anything else but finding sweet second hand furniture, books, knick knacks or fabric. But in the last few years i have come to learn that if you have daughters that need new clothes (and your husband is a full time student)...hit up your local Savers (i specify savers cause they are much more organized than other thrift stores and also Good Will is the thrift Devil is overpriced and cluttered. Last week Elyott and I scoured through its filmy racks like it was no body's business. I think since little girls usually have so many clothes and they grow faster than they can make them disgusting, we always hit the jackpot. However don't waste your time looking for your 3-8 year old son...unless you like faded pokemon halftops.

Since Elyott is a blogger now (private), and a girl, the only logical thing she could think to do next was a fashion show, duh. Here's a little nugget of her adorableness:
"Welcome to Elyott's thrift store girls fashion show!
Today i went to Savers with my Mom and i felt very grown up because there were some baskets that had wheels on the bottom and they had a handle like a small cart. So...I got to pick my own clothes and i tried on pretty much a million things!"

Take your daughters! Make it a date (with some hand sanitizer of course and the promise of ice cream, since it's kind of a weird/disgusting date). It is always a confidence booster for girls to get new clothes. And don't be scared because, while they are in the dressing room trying stuff on, you can slowly swap out the various (nasty) pink leopard jumpers or puffy sleeved silk and toile bridesmaid dresses (of which she has inevitably filled her cart) with the items that won't make her throw up when she looks back at her childhood photos :)

team Boo 's you

p.s. if you've ever had a "team Boo dream" (as a few of you have expressed) don't feel dumb....last night i had a dream that i was Justin Bieber's bodyguard slash (non-romantic) date for his high school prom. shame.

the 90's called...and it wants its groove back.

Today, being the first day of the new school year, I walked around aimlessly from room to room checking different clocks to ensure i didn't lose track of when to pick my kids up. By 3 o'clock I realized that not only did I get nothing substantial accomplished, but I wore a *mickey mouse t-shirt. ALL DAY. To me this is less about fashion a faux-pa and more just a crime against my basic life principles (and I DO mean all disrespect to any other "character" clothing on adults). I practically won't even let my kids wear a mickey mouse t-shirt (unless were IN Disneyland) Which brings me to a few burning questions for myself:
-first of all, why do i even own a mickey mouse shirt!?
-second, why is it on my body?
-and third, why haven't i set it on fire yet????
My misguided sense of myself these days, I fear, is making even those around me sad. I need to re-group...find my rhythm, and get a hold of myself...or I may run straight into the embrace of an argyle sweater vest and make nothing but hamburger helper for dinner. No wonder I've been in such a bad mood :/
*(Not to mention i both picked up and dropped both kids at their schools wearing this)

somewhere between Footloose and Sex In the City...

i actually kinda like this dress....
but you know something isn't right when you can't decide if a girl looks good for her age
...or instead looks too alien for her age??
I'm just sayin'....tight hairdos + "bo-face"(botox) = confusion
team boo 's you ...aaaand loves SJP (but just maybe lay off the eyeliner...oh, also eat a sandwich)

best of both worlds...

Raise your hand if you maybe feel like an idiot shopping with all the high school kids.

I'm not usually one to online shop for clothing, but i like this UK based site since it shows you lots of pictures with close ups and how they fit and move on a runway.  Not quite as cheap as Forever 21 but it does shelter your pride when your thighs aren't the size of a 12 year old asian.
a few that caught my eye...
