are you my mother?

Elyott and I ran in our local 5 K on Friday. Naturally, we wore our matching purple pants (i've come a long way with purple, i even own two purple dresses! it used to burn my eyes, but now i'm okay-ish with it) We made the mistake of bringing our borrowed spaz dog, who when let free is okay with other dogs...but when on a leash, has something major to prove (like short guys who buy monster trucks). This picture was taken about 4 seconds before he "ferociously" ran face to face with a giant wolf dog that could have swallowed him whole. Griff doesn't know he's small. He's like Lenny from Mice and Men, but instead of being giant and too strong for his own good, he's a rat dog....who is in denial.(did i seriously just write about a dog twice in one week!?!)

Anyway, the race was so much fun to run with Elyott. I surprised her that afternoon at school with a spaghetti lunch and garlic bread (her fave). At the race she pretty much wanted to hold my hand the whole time, which at first i thought would be really uncomfortable while running (plus my hands get oddly sweaty even when i'm doing non exercising things, like playing X box with Adam) but it was actually pretty sweet. Just me and my girl running along, holding hands for encouragement, noticing all the kinds of runners that were there, and looking for daddy (who was all flustered while carting both boys, snacks, diaper bag, jackets, a boat sized stroller, and that same nutbag dog....tables are turned sucka!) for three miles. I really like that girl.

It would be so fun if she ended up enjoying running as a hobby. So far she likes most things opposite of me, but i think that is just a daughter vs. mother thing (?) This time I "lured" her in with the well played matching purple pants (shes a sucker for "twinsies" ;) If not, then thank you sweet girl for humoring your dear old mother :) You are my best girl.

ask boo: run for it

A few posts back, i promised you guys I'd answer some of your teamBoo questions that have undoubtedly been keeping you up at night. So here is the first of a series of "ask boo" posts that will probably blow your mind!...or put you to sleep.
(which could be good too...cause that's what you need right? sleep?...the questions...they've been keeping you up...remember?? gosh.)
here we go!

Regarding the running...are you training for a marathon or something? Have you ever run a marathon?

I have! two actually. They were crazy hard but awesome and strangely make me want to run more of them. The crappy parts are the long runs even if you go out of town, and the 5 day a week training. I felt like i lived at the gym. So while i do recommend a marathon, a half is much more conducive to having a life.

Yes, unfortunately almost all my running is done on a treadmill since i can't fathom running inside an OVEN (Phoenix). Also i am a big scaredy cat when it comes to running alone outside, no matter what time of day it is. I'm SO jumpy if some perv honks, and I assume there is a rapist behind every bush. The key for me is to go with a number in mind: "today i am running 6 miles" then if i feel good i'll run more, if not, i stop at my goal number (although I never push through an injury). If i go just expecting to stop when i feel tired, i would in the first two or three miles every time (since that is about how long it takes for me to find a "rhythm") A lot of people say treadmills are boring. My gym has like 17 tv's in front of my face and i have music. Also i figure i am stuck with the same thoughts as i'd be if i were anywhere else, so i've adapted.

You'd have to talk to my hand if you tried to say you could never be a runner. I used to HATE it. Many people can't imagine being capable of running anything beyond a mile, but i assure you: you can (yes, you too Kami ;) Baby steps folks. The burning in your lungs and the side cramps go away after a couple weeks. I've seen people prove themselves wrong many times. I can tell you there is no time i feel more empowered and strong than when i have a good run (super cheese, i know). I crave it now. I think it's a great way to appreciate the amazing body you've been given. If you lived by me, i'd make you come with, and run your face off.

I am not currently training, but am currently trying to get rid of about 15 lbs of baby weight. So i run a lot. The problem is...i eat a lot too :)

Stay tuned for more of your "ask boo" questions.
(Boy, do i sound self absorbed right now or what?..."look at me i'm so interesting!!"

my lovehandles' nightmare...

I will be running the PF Chang's full marathon in January if anyone is interested in slowly killing themselves along with me.  I'm going to start training mid to late October.  Don't all jump at once, i know, but you will be soooo happy when it's over....and don't be scared, for what can be worse than "Laughing Sal?" (see above)

(I'm going to go ahead and directly correlate the number of takers on this one to how many people like my non-blogged-real-life company....don't let me down stalkers...i mean friends).

Fake it till you make it

I ran the san diego marathon this weekend with Bert .

Mistake #1: forgot my shoe inserts (orthotics) Felt awesome 'til about mile #21 when my knee caps turned into grinding stones.

Mistake #2: decided i had trained long enough that i could do the no shirt thing after i got too hot. This was fine until caught a glimpse of the pictures Adam took where my stomach turned into old lady neck skin with each pound of the foot (thank you pregnancy!) It's coo. This must have been why the 70 year old man on the sideline whooped "a high five for the pretty lady!"  Oh, he got his high five...and I've got all my angles covered.

The trip was a blast. Lots of laughing, and i didn't even pee my pants once! Can't wait for the next. Thanks grandma and pa Peterson and grandma and pa Brown for taking/loving my babies while i was gone and of course Bert and Bairdhound for the sweet sweet company...IMPALLA!
