Sometimes i am inspired to blog based on a song. In the summer time i morph into a twangy idiot so...you have something to look forward to there. Yesterday while Elyott was in the shower and Sheamus in the adjacent bath, much to my delight i overheard this glorious conversation:

Elyott: "Sheamus listen to this song i made up....(to the tune of Dirty Dancing's 'I've had the time of my life')....Ching. Chong. Ping ling ching wing woooong. ching chang pang ti tang ting ling ling looong...."


Sheamus: "whoa, i didn't know you knew Chinese!?"

So...what are you listening to? I need some inspiration! I am drawn to female lead singers (a little electronic feel is a bonus). I love music. too bad my "mom bones" have eroded my dance moves. You know when they say if you make a stupid face and someone pats you on the back it will stick like that? Well, the same goes for dancing. If you "joke dance" long enough and then birth a child, your skills freeze in time and suddenly you can only think of two moves ever and when you do them you look like you are having a (sexy) seizure.

this week is making me sad. i won't get into why. but it's times like these when i'd love a momma come play with my hair and sing me to sleep. any momma will do (that's a lie, she has to smell good). this is what i sing to my kids when they need a little extra help settling into their beds (after which they are forbidden to come out of their rooms for ANY reason other than the house being on fire...but then they do anyway when they have a hangnail or something else equally important ;)

(i substitute "mermaid" with their name...or as sheamus requests "handsome boy")

I've had a few inquiries as to what my playlist looks like these days.  There is a lot of acreage in the indie world...i prefer indie rock/pop with a good {often strange} beat. I also tend to gravitate toward female singers. My sister sent me this sweet song that reminded me of young love...kind of modern day "Forever Young" by Alphaville, if i dare say. {this is just some random footage some kids put to the music...you can just minimize and listen to the song}...it's magical ;)

What is it about summertime that makes me crave country music?? Granted some songs are cheery, catchy and even mainstream....but generally the lyrics are such an entertaining mess!  I drive in my car feeling ambivalence while my soul both swells with nostalgia, then slowly dies a little at the ridiculouness that is twang.


But even i know it's never too late to come to your senses, and come August I'll likely do just that....and it will all be over faster than you can say "cameltoe".

♥I already know that 2009 has wonderful things in store for me...you see Metric is releasing their long awaited 4th album and I know it will be absolute magic! 

Emily and i are tight cause, you know, she sweat on my phone this summer...so i figure it's only natural that I give her a shout out {since were such good friends and all}.
